From the Artist: My family and I went on a vacation in a Danish national park, where the interesting shapes of the landscape got my attention. I tried to capture the strange feeling this landscape gave me, it was like looking into a land of adventure, like something unexpected easily could happen. The colors I used in this painting are a reflection of my feelings for the place.
From the Painting Guide: In terms of colors, this painting is really Fauvist, especially the outlining of objects and the use of color in the sky. The extraction of the fundamentals of the landscape, fulfill the objectives of this abstraction project perfectly. To me it's a very strong painting that pulls you in. The tree in the bottom right-hand corner could even be the back of the head of another person standing in front of you looking at the same scene. There's also an underlying feeling of humanity's imposition of structure onto nature through the engineered straight line of a road thrusting into the fluidity of the sky.
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Using Unrealistic Colors: Living in the era we do, we've had more than enough exposure to 'unrealistic' colors in paintings to understand what's going on in this painting. So even though the sky is blue, yellow, red, black, and blue, we read it as sky. An element in a painting doesn't have to be its 'real' color for someone viewing the painting to interpret and understand it, which gives you the opportunity to use color to express emotion or focus attention on an element.
