From the Artist: This painting was inspired by subsections of foliage I saw lying on the ground.

From the Painting Guide: I find it odd that something inspired by foliage has such a animal feel to me. Like the stripes on a tiger, the whiskers of a lion, the scratches of some animal's claws. But isn't that part of the the magic of abstract art, that it can be such different things to different people? Do the marbles represent dew drops, by the way?

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Mixed Media: Are you a purist who only wants one medium or type of paint in a painting, or are you open to the possibilities of mixed media? If adding marbles to a painting seems a bit extreme to you, remember that the definition -- and potential -- of mixing media is very broad. There's a lot of interesting results that can be achieving by simply combining traditional mediums, such as pastel on top of acrylics, or using wax resist with watercolor paints.
