From the Artist: I started this one when I first saw the project. Unfortunately, after painting the tulips I did not know what to do with the background, so it hung in the studio for a while. Then I noticed the project about Vincent, and started with the wavy lines. Guess I got carried away. I must say, I had fun with it though! The flowers had no leaves when I first painted them. I made the leaves up!

From the Painting Guide: This painting has such vibrancy and energy! You can really see you had great fun doing it. I like the contrast between the realistic tulip heads and the painterly leaves (which definitely have the influence of Van Gogh in them!). If the leaves had been realistic it would've been a much less emotive painting.

In terms of the objective of this painting project, which is to paint something from an unexpected angle, you've captured this both in having the viewer see the tulips from the top, which is not the norm in flower painting, and by having the leaves 'floating' around in an energetic way, rather than anchored to flower stems in a 'botanically correct' manner.
