From the Artist: Green Apple was painted for an online class. It was another attempt at chiaroscuro, and also mixed media.
From the Painting Guide: Take a lowly apple, add strong darks, and you've a powerful result! I particularly like the way you've used a hint of the apple's green into the dark background, which creates a unity between the apple and its background.
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Reflection: This apple is standing on a surface that's reflective with a light source coming from the right. The reflection will have the same colors and tones as the apple itself, unless it's a dark reflective surface (or a poor quality mirror), then it'll be darker in tone. Consider the reflection left-hand side of the apple, where it's in dark shadow. Squint and you'll see the reflection is lighter in tone than what it's reflecting.
Also, I wonder if there should be a hint of the table's edge on the left of the apple, the very slightest of a suggestion to anchor the apple to the surface.
