From the Artist: From the Artist: After quite a few years, I just started to paint seriously again. I always had an insatiable appetite for art, especially paintings. After two extended trips to Europe in my mid- to late twenties, seeing all the beautiful art and architecture that you can see only in Europe. I particularly admired German Expressionism. So now I have had a studio built in my house and plan on becoming a working painter.

From the Painting Guide: This is a busy still life of flowers and fruit, with a view out of the window into the world beyond, partly obscured by a branch. But despite the fact that there's so much going on, to my eye the painting is dominated by the flowers.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Perspective: Compare the top of the glass vase with a spoon in it, which implies a downwards view point, with the blue vase and label on the wine bottle which imply a horizontal view point.

Composition: The flowers are in the dead center of the painting, drawing the viewer's eye right in by both their position and their strong colors. If they'd been slightly off to one side, the other objects wouldn't have to try to hard to get the viewer's attention.
