From the Artist: "Recently I have found out a lot of interesting stuff from the book about Van Gogh and his fellow friends Paul Gauguin and Lautrec. After examining Van Gogh's work I discovered he applied no technique, he just splashed paint on the canvas. In his memory I decided to to the same, just put the paint without thinking about any particular rule or technique."

From the Painting Guide: You're sure to get Van Gogh fans in a tizz by saying he didn't have technique, merely splashed paint on canvas... he did have training as a painter and if you look at his early works (such as the peasant paintings), you'll see a lot of evidence of 'traditional' skill. But it was his unconventional use of color and strong impasto works which we now tend to recall when we think of his legacy.
