From the Artist: I wanted to give Vincent his dreams back, that's the image I wanted to paint. I was inspired by a photo I found of him as a 13-year-old boy. and I wondered what those young eyes were seeing and feeling. I added hands. My own were made to be a little more angular with shorter nails, because I think young boy's hands look delicate, much like a grown female. I used a combination of Vincent's mouth and my own to get him blowing through his fingers and with a slight smile. I also added something for Vincent to dream about... color. I hoped to portray him offering his vision to us.

From the Painting Guide: You've definitely caught Van Gogh fever. I do recognize the face, and though the smile seems a bit cheerful to me he probably did smile a lot when he was young and hopeful. I love the colors running through his fingers, him breathing on his hands and the colors streaming out. I presume you know that in some cultures the creation of the world is described as God having breathed, and life happened.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Borrowing a Style: In centuries past the borrowing of ideas, compositions, and styles from other artists wasn't seen as being unoriginal, but as an essential part of the learning process. The attitude was that at some stage you'll internalize what you're borrowing and create something that's your own.

To me that is what Tina has done here. The way the color has been painted is very much in the style of Van Gogh, but the contrast between this and the rest of her painting is very much her style, not his.
