Valentine's Painting Project

By , About.com Guide

Valentine's Monthly Painting Project © Charlene Corman-Brooks 2003, 9 x 12 inches, watercolor mix with collage on 140 lb w/c paper
From the Artist: "This was a playful project done in traditional Valentine colors with my pot of violets set up as still life, a heart-shaped cookie cutter, glitter, sequins, and words cut from a magazine. Contrasting and vibrant colors were used in an attempt to be cheerful. Glitter does not scan well."

From the Painting Guide: It's a very cheerful Valentine's, but the violets could convey unintended symbolism. In Greek mythology a nymph was spared the amorous advances of Apollo by being turned into a violet. So who's the nymph here? You or your valentine?
