Tree Painting Project

"Springtime on the Potomac" by Martha Phillips. 30x24", acrylics.

From the Artist: It was a dark overcast day with sunshine breaking through the clouds at intervals. I was especially interested in painting the bark on the trees, and took home a large piece of bark to study.

I was so interested in the trees I did not give much attention to the rest of the painting. I used several different color glazes on the trees, and enjoyed the project.

From the Painting Guide: I particularly like the tree on the left, the way the roots sprawl out across the ground. The little bit of light green that shows between the trunks I find a little distracting; I might have used artistic license to increase the height of the tree trunk to avoid this.

You say you didn't give much attention to the rest of the painting...? Well, those hills in the background are glorious, with a sense of depth, height, and sun shining on them.
