From the Artist: I call this painting Birch Grove in Winter and hope to express how a stand of birch trees can be a comforting view on a chilly, but sunny, late afternoon. I did it after I'd been painting with oils for about six months.
From the Painting Guide: Brrrrrr, I think your concept of chilly is mine of freezing!
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Tone: Forget color for a moment, and look at the painting only in terms of tone (how light or dark areas are). For me the dark tone of the water dominates the painting too much, and the bottoms of the trees disappear into the background. I'd use artistic license to make the water a lighter tone, and add a slightly darker tone to the edge of the tree trunks so they stand out a bit more.
