From the Painting Guide: These roses are gorgeously lifelike!
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Composition: The placement of the blooms in a triangle draws your eye up towards the one at the top. Had you noticed how many blooms there are seven. Having an odd number is one of the compositional 'tricks' for adding interest to a painting (see Composition Class: Choosing the Number of Items).
Background: The very dark background adds a feeling of grandeur which complements the elegance of the roses. It also doesn't distract from the flowers in any way, helping to keep your eye focused on the subject. Notice also that there's no vase to distract from the flowers.
