From the Artist: This is my first landscape painting in a very long time. I used a photo from a family vacation last summer. The painting was done in a four- to five-hour session. I am pleased with the sky, but realize the stone house needs perspective work.
From the Painting Guide: This is indeed a glorious sky, and I also love the way the triangle of trees on the right guides your eye towards the focal point, the building. And the tiny suggestion of tree tops on the left-hand side of the building which creates a unity to the composition as well as leading the eye across.
As for perspective on the house, to me the main problem is that the two walls on the near and far sides of the roof aren't the same length. The further one is longer; I'd paint out the last step on it for starters. The angle of the bottom of the roof compared to the top ... that could be due it being an old building with a dubious roof rather than a perspective problem.
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Foreground: When I first looked at this painting I wanted it to have more going on in the foreground, before my eye got to the building. But having looked at it for a while, I've changed my mind and think detail in the foreground would just distract from the focal point.
