From the Artist: The multicolored earth denotes various worldly matters, the sky is like fire, the harsh realities in the environments feels burning but the woman is colored in steel gray as metallic strength and power still to 'emerge'.

From the Painting Guide: What a powerful and dramatic use of color in a painting, with a fabulous sense of movement in the fire 'sky' (especially in the yellows). The cold and monochrome color in the figure makes a strong contrast to its setting.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Hard and Soft Edges: In the background there are a few places (especially in the reds) where there's a hard edge where a color has dried as a separate area rather than blending into another color. To my eye these hard edges interrupt the fire effect.

With something such as this, I'd start by masking out the area where the figure would with masking fluid, then turn the sheet of paper upside down to paint. This would prevent the darker reds and oranges from accidentally running into the area I wanted to be yellow. Then I'd dampen the entire area with clean water, and start painting from the bottom up (red to yellow), working wet on wet. Another approach would be to paint in the yellow, leave it to dry thoroughly, then mask this off before painting the oranges and reds.
