From the Artist: I have used minimal colors - olive, turquoise, lime and a touch of purple with lots of white paper showing through.

From the Painting Guide: To me this painting has a really strong feeling of intense light in it, of a harsh, bright environment trying to bleach out the plants' life.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Composition: I think this painting has a fabulous composition -- it's got a lot going on, and the more you look the more you see, but it's also got some large, strong shapes that grab my attention. Spend a little while tracing the outlines of the main shapes in this painting's composition. Look at how your eye is lead around the painting, how the overlapping shapes move your eye along and at the same time unify the elements in the painting.

Now squint your eyes so you can see the shapes the light and dark tones make more easily. See what interesting negative shapes the dark tones on the left-hand side make.
