From the Artist: The time change threw me for a loop the other night when it was dark by 16h30! I had a bunch of sunflowers on my table and thought they might might be feeling 'blue' from the onset of darkness as well...

From the Painting Guide: I'm a great one for anthropomorphizing, so I could well believe that a flower which turns its head to follow the sun could get the blues.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Use of Color: To me the colors transform the subject of this painting into something a bit surreal. Or maybe a scene from a SciFi movie where everything looks normal at first glance, but you feel something is about to happen... And it's just the color that does this, because all the elements in the painting are 'normal'. A fabulous use of color to express or convey the way the short daylight hours of winter affects many people.

Composition: There are some very strong shapes in this painting's composition, for instance the edge of the table, the sphere of the flower vase, and the window frame. Look at how the other elements in the vase unite these and, to some extent, push them away from the viewer to form the background.
