From the Artist: I wanted to convey a storm encroaching from the west. The sky is darkening, with the last rays of the sun shining on the frontal edge of the clouds. The mountains, lake and road are there, but I'm not sure if they are in the right place. I intended the clouds to be the focal point of this painting.

From the Painting Guide: Always remember, you're the artist, you can put the elements in a painting wherever you want them to be. Even if you're painting from life, you're free to leave out or move things; it's called artistic license. Some now-famous artists even did it with city buildings, such as Turner when he was in Venice.

Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Composition: If the clouds are intended to be the focal point, then maybe they should have a greater proportion of the total canvas. As it is at the moment, the landscape has more than half the canvas and so the clouds don't really dominate the scene. This could be resolved by either cropping off some of the foreground, or adding a panel and extending the sky quite a bit.

Color: If emphasis is wanted to be placed on the pending storm and the darkening sky, then perhaps the colors in the foreground shouldn't be so bright. Particularly the color on the lake which is reflecting a bright blue sky. I know you often get a bright, intense sunshine before a storm, but I would downplay this to focus on the storm clouds.
