From the Artist: Painting skies and clouds are almost a spiritual experience for me and my paintings usually start out one way and then take off as though my brush has a life of its own ... as happened with this piece. The clouds are meant to dominate yet are set off by the earthy tones of the hills and road which, hopefully, lead one's eye to the sky.
From the Painting Guide: I think the composition works just as you intended, pulling the viewer's eye up the painting and into the sky, to the tops of the clouds.
Things to Consider When Looking At This Painting:
Planning a Painting: Some people like to plan a painting from start to finish before they put brush to canvas; others let it take on a life of its own as it's painted. I'm a great believer in following your instinct as you paint, and if a painting goes off in a direction that you hadn't thought about, you can always paint another version as you'd originally planned. If you only ever work to a predetermined plan, you'll never have the occasional "happy accident".
