From the Artist: I wanted to try to capture the atmosphere of sunset on the river at Battersea Power Station in London. I experimented using a palette knife to get some texture into the painting, and to get the reflections on the water.
From the Painting Guide: Despite the gentle pinks and blues, this is a very stark painting, with the hard silhouette of the power station demanding your attention. I think even a viewer unfamiliar with this London landmark would be stopped in their tracks to look at it. I like the sense of texture and gentle color variations in the sky (and water); it gives a sense of atmosphere and physicality to what is otherwise a large "empty" area (or rather negative space) in the composition.
With the reflection, I wonder if there shouldn't be a bit more of the chimneys in the water, whether it breaks up too soon? And the step in the right-hand side of the building isn't in the reflection at all, whereas I'd expect to see some of this.
