From the Artist: My painting is based loosely on an idea from another one of my nightscape paintings and my imagination evolving or kind of "going astray" as I went along! I tried to paint the exaggerated glow in the sky that might reflect from the city at night. The glow from the sky is reflected in the water and the buildings are suppose to look rather abstract?
It was kind of interesting to do, but for me, moving back to my comfort zone won't be difficult! Thanks for the challenge.
From the Painting Guide: You should feel pleased with yourself for several reasons, not least of which is stepping out of your comfort zone and giving this project a go. It's far easier to reject an idea without trying, but without trying at least once you'll never make unpredictable discoveries.
I think you've got a fabulous effect on the buildings. There's a sense of depth, of layer upon layer of building all with intriguing layered colors. It pulls me in for a closer and more intent look, with more revealing itself as I look.
The water in the foreground I think suffers from having such strong bands in it which don't quite mirror what's above it. I feel these might have benefited from overlapping in a broken up way rather than switching strongly from one color to the next.
Likewise, the transition from the light above the city into the dark sky is a bit harsh. I like the extreme dark of the night sky and the barely visible stars in it, but would soften the transition so it looks less like spotlights shining up.
