From the Artist: This is my first submission for the monthly challenge. I started painting last year (2007) and have been watching the challenges and finally found the courage to do one. For this painting I chose to start with a black canvas, and use a metallic gold oil paint for the buildings. The eyes on the buildings were intended to be windows, the brush I picked up made the shape of an eye when I painted the first window. So I thought I would add many eyes, because when I am in a city I feel as though many eyes are watching.
From the Painting Guide: Delighted to have you join in the painting projects, and thanks for sharing your painting! I do think it's a brave thing putting a painting on display to the world.
I like the way the composition goes off the edges, creating a sense of the scene continuing. The subdued colors and tones give a lovely sense of a city at night, and the windows at eyes gives it a spookiness. The one thing I don't like -- and it's very much a personal preference of mine rather than right or wrong -- is the strong horizontal line which divides the composition into two halves. I would either add a reflection of this so the edge of transition isn't so sharp, or blend it more so the transition isn't so definite.
