From the Artist: I had trouble working on such a small canvas. It was hard to fit everything in. I prefer working in abstraction so this was a bit more comfortable for me than previous projects. My only wish is that I had abstracted it slightly more.

As far as the painting, I was trying to capture the myriad of color reflected on the water at sunset. This particular sunset is really pink-toned. It changed all the colors on the buildings and there were so many colors it was difficult to capture without muddying it up. I've always thought Tampa was a beautiful city....

From the Painting Guide: The glorious, saturated colors with the totally pink sky make this a striking painting. And I wouldn't worry about muddying colors slightly, it just gives that sense of urban grime to them. With everything that's going on in the water, I find myself wondering whether the painting wants to be cropped just above the tallest buildings. That way, instead of the buildings and water each occupying half of the composition, the water occupies two thirds and dominates.
