From the Artist: I was completely out of my 'comfort zone' with this abstraction project I found subsequent attempts with different landscapes all followed the same simplistic, one dimensional format using what I call dolly mixture colours. This was my second attempt and I was trying to convey the sense of land being swallowed up here in the Canary Islands by new building projects of a dubious nature, often colourful but with little regard to architecture.

The two slanting buildings are there to express the way this land gobbling is squashing out existing buildings and they are struggling to be seen. However our urban landscape here is colourful and whilst the architecture is suspect, the cheerful colours of Tenerife are attractive.

Whilst this project had me frustrated most of the time, the challenge and the satisfaction I got from having produced a completed painting I felt able to submit, was reward enough.

From the Painting Guide: I'm delighted and somewhat relieved to hear your satisfaction outweighed your frustration in the end. The colors in your painting give a lovely sense of location, of a sunny Mediterranean city, but the angled buildings and cranes create a sense that it's not a peaceful nor sleepy location. It transforms the scene into something unexpected and disturbed, contradicting the palm trees and beach umbrella.
