July & August 2008 Painting Project: Abstracting an Urban Scene

Challenge yourself with this painting project.

From Marion Boddy-Evans, About.com

The challenge this project is to convey the essence of an urban scene, without the detail. It's to be an abstraction not pure abstract. For an idea of what I've in mind, take a look at the paintings of contemporary artist Bill Jacklin. For something that pushes abstraction further, take a look at John Virtue's London paintings, where the city is reduced to black-and-white only. For some further discussion on what an abstraction may contain, join this forum discussion.
