Painting Project 2006: Summer Amusement

Everyone is invited to try this project. Any medium, any style, anything goes. Think about the summers you remember best. The good times, trips to amusement parks and fairs. About all the different smells and the quality of the light.

Our earliest and most primitive memory associations are with taste and smell. Can you smell the popcorn? The cotton candy and overdone hot dogs? Do you feel the pink strands of candy melting on your tongue? Remember the excitement of the flashing lights, the loud voices of the hawkers? The yells and screams of the riders, and even the crying of overtired children? The dusty smell of the summer heat? Put all this in your painting. Think: A – muse - ment.
