From the Artist: The stretched canvas is base coated in cadmium red medium which I glazed with magenta for a 1970's pink/orange feel. The 7' high, electric palm tree and Fender Starcaster guitar are actually in my studio.

The book case contains pots of paints, books, brushes and a jointed artist mannequin. I'm taking a drawing class and our first assignment was a charcoal self-portrait. So that's why the portrait and charcoal are on the easel.

From the Painting Guide: I particularly like the way you've painted the chair in front of the painting. It's clear what's what, but it plays with perspective and our concepts of "reality".

Looking at the painting overall and thinking about the way Matisse painted his studio, I think I would've reduced the guitar, palm tree, and pot plants to outlines, something like this. It would still give a sense of their position in the studio, but give the art more dominance. At the moment there are a few too many elements in color and my attention is scattered.

Also check the angles of your paintings behind the easel, which are orientated with your easel, as well as the shelves on the bookshelf. Matisse's painting plays with perspective, but each element's needs to be correct by itself.
