Painting Project: In the Style of Matisse

From the Artist: Being new to this, I thought I would attempt this month's project. Having looked at it, I thought that it wouldn't be too bad... I was so wrong! I've found this really difficult, and don't like this style one little bit! I used the wrong colour (red) with the orange as the detail doesn't stand out so well. I don't know why I thought red would be a good idea? Also, I struggled with the perspective -- it just doesn't seem right somehow. Oh well, never mind. We live and learn, and I have learnt that I never ever want to attempt a painting in the style of Matisse again!

From the Painting Guide: If you'd never tried the style, you wouldn't have discovered that it's deceptively simple, that he makes it look easy, so you should be pleased with yourself just for giving it a go. I like the red over orange as it pulls me closer to see what's going on. Viewing it from a distance and close by would be quite different experiences.

As for the perspective, I think it the main problem is the bit to the left of the door. But what I would do is to push it further, eliminating more of the lines that define the room's perspective, like this, rather than fix it in traditional perspective terms.
