From the Artist: We owned Welsh corgis for many years (actually, they owned us!) and when I read the children's story, I wanted to try painting Misty as a corgi. Easier said than done! This is my first attempt at painting animals, and it was quite a challenge. My imagination was full of all kinds of ideas for the various pages, but trying to get them sketched and painted narrowed my choices. However, I really enjoyed this month's project.

From the Painting Guide: I'm delighted you enjoyed the challenge this project presented.

Narrowing down ideas and deciding what to actually paint are a crucial part of the process. Some book publishers will want to see sketches or thumbnails of your ideas before you did the paintings and discuss them, especially if your working relationship was new. A publisher who knows an illustrator well, however, may just leave you to get on with it, trusting your imagination and creativity based on past experience. But as reworking an illustration is far easier when you're only at sketch stage, scanning and emailing your sketches can save time and effort later.
