From the Artist: I don't feel I really 'get it' when it comes to abstract. I made the city dark because cities are where you can be lonely in the crowd.
From the Painting Guide: I think your painting says otherwise, that you've very much 'got' abstraction by reducing the scene to its bare bones. That is the dominate shapes in the city's profile and light/dark tones rather than specific, realistic colors. If you're thinking "but that's too easy, is that it?", then it's because you've a natural inclination (aka talent) for seeing the world this way. Some people find it incredibly difficult, getting sucked into painting detail despite their best efforts.
I think your composition lends itself to being cropped top and bottom (like this) into a format that's wider than it's tall. It would enhance the sense of the city skyline stretching from horizon to horizon.
