From the Artist: I remember I was one of the first to post on this subject last year, Tenerife Urban Landscape) and I must have had a flash of inspiration then, because far from being easy this time, I found the choice of subject very difficult and discarded several attempts which were not working. Finally I came across an old photo showing the annual illuminations at Blackpool in Lancashire, an event I never missed going to when I was very young and which filled me with absolute wonder and enchantment. Now they are much more sophisticated so I tried to recapture them as I saw them all those years ago.
I worked on black card and it took the acrylic very well. Abstraction isn't really my scene but again I found it challenging as usual. I deliberately made the buildings and posts a little wonky to get away from being too realistic and hope it is abstracted enough. I also cropped about two centimeters off the left hand side as the post there was too dominant. Once I got going I really enjoyed doing the painting.
