From the Artist: You find jasmines in almost every garden in Tunis (my home away from home). Same is true for gardens in smaller towns and cities in India. So when in bloom, jasmines make me feel at once at home and home sick!
I would like to do another version of this painting with branches "dripping" down and flowers done with a palette knife. Do let me know if you think it would work.
From the Painting Guide: I think a knife could work well to create the petals of the jasmine flowers in a loose, textured style, as well as the leaves/branches they grow on. I'd also try using the knife to scratch into the paint (sgraffito) to create the branches with texture, rather than adding them on top as color.
Things to Consider When Looking at This Painting:
Color in a Composition: Of all the things that go into making a successful painting composition, color is possibly the most neglected one. Look at how, in this painting, the yellow unifies parts of the composition, linking them as you look at the painting. It also pushes your eye towards the figure, then the face.
