My sister-in-law asked asked me to paint her a picture of orange trees (the colour not the fruit) on a black background. She wanted it to look "spooky" but was otherwise vague about what she was looking for. So, after some thought and some strong tea I thought I'd start with the easy bit ... the background.
This was achieved with two coats of a 60:40 mix of ultramarine blue and cadmium red. More tea later and I thought back to a painting I showed last year called "Decisions, Decisions" which had reddish trees and decided to work along those lines. This photo shows progression to there.
