This book is like having a session with a careers advisor without all the you-can't-make-a-living-as-an-artist, doom-and-gloom lecturing. It doesn't say it will be easy; it does give you case studies showing it is possible.
Whether you're a school leaver trying to decide which career path to step onto, an arts graduate unsure which direction to head, bored with your current career and thinking of a change, or pondering whether to shift up a notch from being an occasional artist, there's careers advice for you.

Lists of possible art-related careers, interviews with people doing such jobs, the basics of working for yourself and running a one-person business, advice on how to structure the business-side without impacting on the creative-side. The fundamentals of need-to-know areas such as copyright, marketing, a portfolio, tax, etc. Worksheets to make you think about the practicalities and realities, from deciding whether you're suited for freelancing (not everyone can deal with the uncertainties and freedoms) to the basics of a business plan.

It's like an upbeat, introductory course to being a freelance artist where you encounter lots of success stories along with being given the tools and fundamental information to plan your own path.
