Question: What Should I Do with the Paper Wrapped Around a Pastel?
Answer:
The paper that is wrapped around a pastel is there to protect it during transport (it stops the pastel from breaking). It is not necessary to keep it on, and some pastelling techniques (such as using the side of the pastel, scumbling, or dusting) require you to remove it. It certainly helps identifying pastels by color in the box if the wrapper is removed - just tear it off.
If you can remove the paper without tearing it it can be a useful reminder of what colors you have. Until you know your colors really well it can be an awful problem identifying what color you have just used up when there's not wrapper associated with it!
