Oil Painting Tip: Using Alkyd Medium for Faster Glazing

A helpful painting tip submitted by a fellow artist.

By , About.com Guide

Using alkyd as a medium instead of linseed oil makes your oil painting dry faster and be ready to glaze again the day after. All you need is a little alkyd on the tip of your brush and your oil paint will spread thinly like never before. I use Liquin, an alkyd made by Winsor & Newton. You can also dilute some alkyd with turpentine 50:50 in a little bottle before use (the smelly type of turp, nothing else).
