Color Mixing Tip - - Use a Palette Knife Not a Brush to Mix Colors

A color-mixing tip to add to your color theory knowledge.

Use a Palette knife to mix your colors rather than a brush. That way you don't accidentally get some stray color that was lurking in the brush in the mix to muck it up. It's easier to clean a knife than a brush too.
Tip from: Carolyn.

If you want to practice using a painting knife without fretting about wasting paint, buy a jar of cheap smooth jam or peanut butter and practice with this on a piece of paper (or bread!). It's got a similar consistency and texture to oil or acrylic paint (though it of course never dries). If you find it sinks into the paper too much, use a piece of canvas paper or put some gesso on it.
