In order to save cleaning a palette, I use a piece of cling wrap and squirt my acrylic paint onto it. Covering it keeps it workable for a long time. Works especially well with colors you custom mix.

Tape a piece of freezer paper with masking tape over your palette for easy clean up. Each time you start a new painting, you have a clean palette.
