Can I use Cooking Oil for my Oil Paints?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Can I use Cooking Oil for my Oil Paints?
Answer: Reaching for the bottle of cooking oil may seem a logical solution if you’re using oil paints and have run out of your ‘usual’. After all, oil is oil, isn’t it? Unfortunately, some cooking oils won’t oxidise and dry, leaving you with a mess. Why risk it? Rather stick to pure, artist’s quality oils and saving the cheaper cooking oil for the kitchen.
