Decide on a Viewpoint

Decide what angle you're going to view the flower from.

The first decision to be made is the angle you're going to be looking at the flower, or your viewpoint. Are you going to look down on it (photos 1 & 2), from a slight angle so you see into the flower but also its stem (photo 3), from the side (photo 4), or even from below?

There is no right or wrong choice, it's just a choice to be made by you the artist. If you can't decide, do a series of thumbnail sketches to try out your options.
