Once I'd got the whole background covered and the face blocked in, I stepped back to assess what I'd done. The composition, the colors, the overall feeling of the painting. I decided the window distracted the eye too much from the figure, and that something else was needed to unite the whole composition. So I decided to add something else to the composition.
