In these sketches I was trying to draw in a more angular fashion, rather than the curvy, scribble style that is my natural tendency. Why would I work against my natural style rather than with it? For starters, it was to try and complete a sketch with fewer lines, as I think I tend to draw too many. (That's another worthwhile exercise: experimenting to see how few lines you need to draw to still convey the figure.)
