You can’t predict what wildlife you’ll encounter -- this is, after all, not a zoo, it’s just unfenced wilderness. At Chobe we came across a pride of lions with some 20 cubs of varying ages. The guide told us they expected the pride to break up into two because it had become so large. The next morning, we saw two young male cheetahs out hunting. These were the first cheetahs Katie had seen in all the years she’s been visiting Chobe.
Our group was divided into two game-viewing vehicles, with Katie being in one for the morning game drive and the other for the afternoon game drive. This worked well as it gave you time to put into practise everything you’d been learning and stopped you going into overload. There’s just so much: new landscapes, new animals, new art-related things.
If there was a major sighting, such as the lion cubs, our vehicles would meet up. Otherwise you’d rarely encounter any other vehicle and at meal times the conversations would be about what each group had seen.
