Learning how any two colors mix together is an essential part of learning to master your paints. How much of either color is in the mix changes the result. Creating a color run is a simple way to see how two colors work together. Painting Forum member Rghirardi explains:
"The purpose of the 'run' is to create several values of two distinct colors mixed together. That is, the 'run' shows the two colors in various proportions to each other. Lay the two colors down about six to eight inches apart on the palette and then, with a knife, pull them across into each other. This is similar to color mixing studies where you create several boxes and start with pure color on each end and mix various parts of each color working towards the pure color on end."
Keep your color run charts so it's easy to refer to them. With time and practice the knowledge will become instinctive but, until then, it's useful to have an instant visual reference.
