Gather what you need. Most things are household items, except for the screen and the vat. It goes easier if you work near a water source, and where you can spill water without worries. You will need:

  • Blender. If you are using additives or anything not food safe, you'll have to dedicate your blender to paper making. Simple paper making, such as I'm doing here, shouldn't hurt the blender, which should be run through the dishwasher after each paper-making session.
  • "Felts". Tear or cut up an old sheet into pieces a little bigger than your screen. You could use a blanket or whatever too.
  • "Vat". A kitty litter box is ideal, they're the right depth and size. I use something similar that I picked up at a dollar store, it's a little small, but it was only a dollar!
  • Water source.
  • Newspaper. Use old copies of your local free weekly.
  • Sponge. Dedicate it to paper making, so food and mold doesn't contaminate the paper.
  • Screen. This is explained in Step 2.
  • Drawing Board. Used for the Poor Man's Press.
  • Paper. Recycle! Bills, fliers, construction paper (for color), printing mistakes, paper bags, watercolors you messed up, anything that isn't glossy. For strength, add blotter paper and paper bags.
