Reference Photos for Artists: Cheetahs

A collection of cheetah photos for artists to use as reference in paintings.

By Marion Boddy-Evans, About.com Guide

Cheetahs are renowned for being the fastest land animal on Earth, capable of reaching speeds of more 100km/h (62mph) for short distances. Cheetahs, which are found in the wild only in Africa (and subspecies in parts of western Asia), are characterised by their long legs, sleek bodies, and the round, black spots on their coats.

Top tip for painting cheetahs: the dots aren't random, nor all the same size. Don't just slap down black dots arbitrarily and expect the result to look realistical.
