Art Glossary: Toxicity

By Marion Boddy-Evans, About.com

Definition: How poisonous a pigment is. Some pigments, such as cadmium colors (cadmium red, yellow, orange), lead white, or cobalt blue are known to be toxic and come with health warnings printed on the labels. Other pigments are inert, such as earth colors.

Learn at least the basics about what's in the paint you're using, and be sensible about what you do with it.
