Art Glossary: Tint

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

A tint is any hue (color) that has been mixed with white.

Pastels are manufactured in a range of tints, from light to dark (for more on this, read Identifying Pastel Color Tints).

In watercolor, tints are achieved by adding more water, thus allowing more of the paper to show through.

The opposite to a tint is a shade.
