The term 'portrait canvas' is used to describe a canvas that is a vertical rectangle, that is taller than it is wide.

The term refers to the shape or dimensions of a canvas, not the subject that's painted on it. A portrait canvas is not a specific type of canvas used only for painting portraits of people.

The opposite of a portrait canvas is a landscape canvas.
