Lorraine Dort considers herself a landscape artist but also likes to paint animals. She started painting with oils about 40 years ago, switching to acrylics 10 years later. These days she works in mostly watercolor pencils, on watercolor paper in different grades of roughness.
Lorraine says: "The pencils are much easier to use on the smooth surfaces although I do like the coarse look of the heavier paper. I love landscape and wildlife paintings.
"Two of my favorite artists are Canadian landscape and wildlife artists Robert Bateman and Wendy Palmer. I love their attention to detail and magical ability to capture the glow of the landscape and the intelligence behind the eyes of the animals they paint."
