Art Glossary: Bob Ross

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

Bob Ross is arguably the most successful TV artist ever (certainly in the USA). Even though he died in 1995, his Joy of Painting TV series, books, paints, and spin-off products still sell widely today. Many people have indeed discovered the joys and pleasures of painting through him. The official Bob Ross website contains details.

The Bob Ross Wet-on-Wet Technique® is an oil painting method that involves working fairly rapidly and always into wet paint. Ross's presentation was upbeat and spontaneous, emphasizing the fun to be had. Listen out for phrases such as "happy little trees".
