The Fog by Sergey Muravyev
Monthly Painting Project: Abstracting Nature
© Sergey Muravyev 1977–1997, 25 x 30", oil on canvas

From the Artist: "I am sending to you this for your new project. I made this work a very long time ago but it is one from my favourite paintings. At the time I loved to observe the planets, the moon and the sun. It was created from some of my impressions, but now I feel there was some mystery. I call it The Fog or The Strange Planet."

You're invited to share your comments on the work submitted for this project gallery in the Painting Forum.

From the Painting Guide: Here we have an abstracted painting of a planet, the ethereal quality of a planet seen through the distortions of atmosphere. It's a snapshot of something haunting. It's emotional side is determined by the use of exotic red and umber. Or is it a real closeup of a planet like Jupiter? It makes me want to sit and stare at it, rather like one stares at the stars, always seeing more.
